On Hope

We are such strange little creatures, so senseless and mindless drifting through space and time without even having a destination. We keep on going even when the path darkens, even when there is no sign of light at the end of the tunnel, we keep on standing and not giving into despair. We go to sleep at night having a small thought that we are just a little bit too stubborn to let die, wake up in the morning with the biggest hope inside of our hearts that what we were thinking last night maybe with come to the realization this very day. That may be the skies heard us and the wish might come true. This makes us smile, start the day with so much hope, so much to wait for. The hours go by, one by one, and the day starts fading away, and with it, we die little by little because we start to realize that this was not the day, that we will go to bed trying to keep the flame still on, but we do know that a part of it died this very day, a part that will never come back to life, and maybe soon it will all be gone. This scares us, oh so much because without it, what will be hoping for before going to sleep later tonight? What will be hoping for the day after with so much joy that our little hearts might burst? That is what terrifies us, having nothing to hope for, and that is why we have to kill that hope, we have to end it because it is exactly that little flame that keeps the past alive and the past must be put down, otherwise despair is just around the corner, desperation will fill our days and darkness will surround us even though the sun is shining so bright. But how can we do that? How can we kill hope, how can we empty our minds, and even more difficult how can we empty our hearts? There is no easy way to it because with all those hopes and feelings that were so beautiful a part of you will die too, but it is a price worth paying because on the other side is freedom. So much freedom because there will be nothing occupying your soul, you will be able to fly and taste new worlds, when there is nothing as silly as hope keeping you down. The freedom that you will be able to have only when you realize that nothing matters, that our only purpose is to exist for a short period of time and then just give in to the sands of time. Our only purpose is to fill some days, maybe for the very great ones, touch some lives and then become one again with the infinity of the universe and bathe forever in the timeless rivers of nothingness. You see, what makes us cling to that small hope for dear life is fear, an unreasonable fear of letting go, a fear that makes no sense and brings nothing but more fear and makes the darkness a bit thicker, until it will be sticking on you, bring you down and drown you. What you and I cannot comprehend is that we are the masters of our sea, we are the captains of our own ship and nothing should be allowed to take that right from us, the right to be the masters of our world. It is us that give in because of an unnatural fear, fear of what? We come alone and will leave this place the same, alone. What is there to fear? So what is keeping us from breaking the chain? What is keeping us from spreading our wings and fly so far up in the sky that the ones left behind will lose sight of us once and for all? I think it is the idea of being forgotten by those who we once loved, so illogical! You see, how much you are sacrificing just so you can keep some hope inside of you for something that will never be yours, for something that will never find its way back to you, for something that was just filling some days and had no other meaning! For something that you wanted to mean more, but something cannot surpass their limits, some things will never leave the box they came in and evolve into something greater because that is all they can reach. So give in, break the chain and burn that hope to the ground and scatter the ashes, this is the only way to be reborn.
